In the past few years, in our game Archaeologist and Whatever Happened To, we have played it, but it’s still being developed, the most recent patch fell through in April, when the publisher rolled out some new things to build blocks and reduces the number of dollars a year, and now lets the players have a subscription, too! So if you’re still unsatisfied with the optional fees, you can go and build your own private server. The MMO is one of a very limited games in our genre released for open-source development. There is no one else that allows users to select and offer unlimited skills, storage, housing, etc. Ryzom is the first to turn 17 in the fall, but technically it was a hybrid free-to-play MMO for over a decade and subsequently was revamped in 2017 at the freemium. As it is typical, longer terms come with discounts, but there’s also a lifetime sub fee of around 300 (about $316 US).
It started around $15 and was lowered to 10.95 in 2009.
This isn’t really the first time that the Ryzoms sub fee has changed over the years. The long-running sci-fantasy sandbox announced this week that its new premium fees are going to last around 3.5 million pounds in all of the monthly expenses (that’s probably a dollar more than Steams and more) to pay for this month’s new expansion, which will cost around $4,000,000 (no further cost of money, of course, and presumably due to more expensive increases).
It is actually lowering its subscription fees. Ryzom is changing the course of the competition. The two major MMORPGs RuneScape and EVE Online, made the bold move to increase their subscription rates as their playerbases grumbled.
